Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling

5.0

Of COURSE this book deserves 5 stars! It's amazing!! Who WOULDN'T agree? Wait... I know a few people.
As a kid, I was never allowed to read this series growing up, as my very devoted, Catholic parents forbade this series on the grounds that it "was about witchcraft." (In fact, this book is STILL on "Banned Books" lists around the world.) Naturally, this made me even more curious about it, A.) because it was very popular, but B.) even moreso because the Catholic school I attended from K-8 grades had the entire series in its library.
Fast-forward to winter break of college, my junior year. I stayed over at my best friend's house (yes, an adult college sleepover), and she was SHOCKED that I'd never seen or read Harry Potter before! We promptly watched the first 4 movies over the next couple days that I stayed, and I subsequently got around to watching the rest of the movies - all but the very last one (yes, I know this is the most important one!).
Today, I can successfully say I've finished reading the first book and thoroughly enjoyed it! I understand now why there is so much hype and love for this series. Hogwarts is so magical, and it is so easy to relate to these characters and many of their every day struggles!
At the end of the day, what I've gotten is that this series is about the fight between good and evil, with too much power being a terrible thing if it's used in the wrong way.
If I ever have kids, I do so plan to encourage them to read this! It is IMAGINATIVE and MAGICAL, and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
P.S. I've taken the official quiz. I'm a Ravenclaw ;)
