Destiny's Blood by Marie Bilodeau

4.0

Marie Bilodeau has crafted an exciting, action-packed sci-fi adventure, filled with surprising plot twists and revelations. But it's very much a character-driven story, centred around twin sisters and the rogues, heroes and villains drawn into their orbit as they find themselves holding the fate of countless worlds in their hands.

The story is told from the point of view of a variety of characters, proving you don't have to write a brick in the mould of A Song of Ice and Fire to give a story epic scope. I found it a colourful and entertaining read.

I am a sucker for backstory, and a fully fleshed out setting. In that regard, my only complaint is that I would have liked a little more detail on the geo-political makeup of this universe, and how this future came to be, but I suspect we'll get more of that in the next two books.
