Dreamhearth by M.C.A. Hogarth

4.0

By the time I got around to this one, I was pretty much finished with all the M.C.A. Hogarth books I can personally handle iin a glom. I'm just not built for reading dozens of books in a row by a given author before I need something new, and so, while this one was good, it felt a little self-indulgent for my tastes.

I didn't particularly enjoy the excerpts of the terrible romance novel Va'set'h's sisters make him read. Hogarth has portrayed romance with much more nuance in other books, but I'm not sure I needed the homage to her teenage self.

As for the plot in this one, I felt like it all hinged on a coincidence that was a little too pat to really work. Given how much Jahir and Va'set'h had to work for things in the last book, I felt like things came to them too easily in this one.

I still enjoyed the story and the visit with these characters. I would have just liked stakes that were a little higher.
