A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

5.0

A Walk to Remember is a story that begins with a simple promise which then evolves into a spell binding love story that makes us all remember what it’s like to start to care and love for something before it disappears into thin air. Through this story Nicholas Sparks teaches us that miracles are possible, and that we should not give up on people.
The story starts off with a troubled teen Landon Carter who is trying to find himself a date for the school dance; his searches lead him to Jamie Sullivan’s doorstep. A girl who lived in her own world and not caring what others thought about her, with the teachings of the Bible to guide her she helped out the local orphanage and took care of her widowed father. Jamie agreed to be Landon’s date to the school dance only on one exception; a promise to not fall in love with her. Landon thought this was a simple promise to keep, but he did not know what was in store for him. This promise took Landon Carter into a roller coaster ride of emotions which he has never felt before.

You’d expect a female author to do a better job in conveying the emotions of love, joy and pain but the Nicholas Sparks does an exceptional job in pulling the readers into the book and helping them feel each emotion along with the characters. Even though this book was another typical Nicholas Sparks love story where he again uses the idea of turning a bad boy into a good boy, by just simply falling in love; this was one of the best novels he wrote. Moreover, he made the book easier to understand because of the use of simple words and word structures. The simplicity of the story makes me want to read it again and to fall in love with it over again.
All in all, this book keeps the reader engrossed till the last page and keeps them wanting for more.
