This book was fantastic. I didn't quite know what to expect at first; I'm typically not a fan of poetry books. But the way Reynolds crafted the story made if feel so real and so profound.
I loved the setting of the elevator and the floors felt like the manifestation of the trickling effect of The Rules. The Rules were passed down generation to generation - violence is always followed by violence - the never-ending cycle. And it's up to the protagonist at the end whether he will break that cycle.
I thought the poetry structure served the story well and the build up throughout really paid off in the end.
