The Romance by Marion Chesney, M.C. Beaton

1.0

I bought a bunch of Beaton/Chesney’s historical romances a while ago because they’re often quite cheap through kindle deals. This is my second one and I am thoroughly so disappointed and not impressed that I’m going to see if I can return them all.

For this one specifically, the characters’ motivations described did absolutely little to explain their actions that more often than not made no sense for them to do. The plot was thin and all over the place. Characters were rarely ever physically described despite there being quite a bit of them so they all just turned in blobs of nothingness. The main ‘romance’ was incredibly creepy in that not only was he middle aged while she was a teenager but that every interaction between the two was simply just him completely demeaning her and being so so sexist.
