The Burning Bridge by John Flanagan

4.0

The Burning Bridge is better than the first one in my opinion. I think this series is just a comfort series to me at this point and I like almost everything about it. I like the Robin-Nightwing-Batman-esque dynamic between Will, Gillian, and Halt (and I guess in this analogy Horace would be Superman kind of?), and the character interactions are what make these books. Seeing them joke around with each other really gets you attached to them and I think that Flanagan is great at succinctly describing the story in a clear and easy to understand way and I like his writing for it’s commitment to storytelling first and foremost (likely why I like Stephen King so much). The first book had almost no female characters and I’m also glad we get one in Evanlyn because I like her a lot. The plot armor is a little insane near the end but that’s okay because I’m having fun. I think if you don’t like this series you might be kind of insane so please give it a go! I’m so excited to read the next one.
