The World We Make by N.K. Jemisin

3.0

It's pretty clear, even without reading the afterword, that Jemisin's heart just wasn't in this. Nor was mine. I struggled to finish, pretty much from ⅓ of the way through, but for myself because Jemisin. My biggest gripe is that it's just lacking in her usual creativity and finesse. The good people are good. The bad people are bad. The politics is so on-the-nose it's almost insulting, as if she didn't trust her reader to "get it." Thus, a generous three--and hoping she takes some time off for her own sake to rebuild and regroup.
