I really struggled with this book. I enjoyed the first one - the characters were interesting, the world was new, and I bought into the magic of it all. It took until about 75% of the way through the book for Estrella to even accept having a mate. This is where I struggle most with the book - for Estrella and Caldris, everything takes ages. It was the same conversation between them for most of the book and at some point it became exhausting.

The pacing aside, the world building was a bit odd. There wasn’t much explored or explained and what was shared was just regarding the fae/human mate bond. It felt that Estrella was literally in the same settings as book 1, and so the plot felt cyclical rather than linear, and didn’t showcase much character growth.

The last 20% of the book was quite good, but even then the main plot elements were rushed and confusing.
