To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

5.0

Often I feel like contemporaries have the habit of oversimplifying. In the span of a book there are vague references to high school being lame, relationships being complicated, and families and/or friends making life harder than necessary.

What I love about Jenny Han are her specifics. She gives details and explanations for the day to day. High school isn't lame, we experience the monotony, see the oddball teachers, feel the other students' snide remarks. I don't have to guess what Lara Jean is wearing most of the time. And her outfits are so fun and specific that they're memorable! The conversations feel natural, the characters feel believable, I don't know what else to say besides Jenny Han's details make this story come alive.

Even if every boy in this series have such generic names that I struggle to not mix them up, I'll take that problem over a thin plot, shallow characters, and a blaze setting any day!

5 stars. Jenny Han made me care! Now I must continue to follow after my girl Lara Jean in the rest of this series! :)
