Fruits Basket, Vol. 17 by Natsuki Takaya

5.0

This is the WTF volume.

I remember reading this when it first got translated into English in high school, and this is like a nonstop, soap opera, roller coaster ride. I had already been long spoiled for the one major character twist, so I'm not just talking about that. Just all the other stuff with Akito, Shigure, Kureno, and the character now revealed as Ren Sohma is... a lot. Honestly, there are multiple twists and reveals in this volume, but they are all tangled together and pilled on top of each other that readers just tend to focus on the big one that sort of interconnects them all.

Yet, as with so much of Fruits Basket, all these reveals have been teased, hinted at, foreshadowed, and built up to for a while, so even as it all comes slamming down, they are not out of left field, so to speak, but are rather like getting answers.
