Code Zero is a strange but compelling novel, focussing on the impact of technology in our lives and how it can be used to manipulate and control us even as it often makes our lives easier. Our handful of protagonists are all influenced by technology in different ways; Cynthia is an old-school journalist, with very little interest in modern technology, other than to investigate how it can be misused. Her daughter Vi however is the complete opposite, she has completely embraced the tracking devices and actively sells her data using Freemee and using the technology to 'improve' her lifestyle, following it's suggestions and advice.

But when tragedy strikes as one of Vi's friends is murdered, both mother and daughter are drawn into a conspiracy larger than either of them could have anticipated. Cynthia in particular is determined to also discover the truth behind the death of her daughter's friend, however that will put her on the wrong side of some very powerful people. She'll find an unexpected ally in Zero, the leader of a mysterious cell exposing secrets that those in high places would prefer stay safely under wraps. Soon she'll have to make a choice; her safety or the truth. It's a choice with dangerous consequences.

Code Zero is a fast paced and interesting novel that draws on some very real ethical issues with technology. Just what is our data being used for? Who has access to it and what can they do with it? There are issues with the novel; some of the danger seemed wildly out of place and unbelievable. But if you can suspend your disbelief for a little while, this is a thought provoking and well written novel.
