The Power of Women: Learning from Resilience to Heal Our World by Denis Mukwege

5.0

This book was such a difficult read because of the challenging/depressing subject at hand (Rape and violence against women). But It is an important read. Many times I wanted to stop reading (more like listening- audiobook) because I hurt for the women and children whose stories are simply tragic and unjust. As I kept going, I learned so much about the conflict in DR Congo and surrounding countries- straight from the source. The book discusses rape, sexism, patriarchy, culture & tradition, and domestic violence in a way that makes you comprend it in a different light.

I admire Dr. Mukwege and his dedication to the health of women in Eastern Congo. Heart of gold.
