Wow, wow, and wow! The audiobook completely blows the written book out of the water. It hits so much harder hearing Jennette McCurdy tell the story herself and what it sounded like to her in that moment.
McCurdy went through so much for two decades when she should have been trying to grow up and understand the person she would become. Not having to placate her mother’s narcissism, and abused by ‘The Creator’ as she puts it. As well as vulnerable to terrible men who know they can use and abuse her to stroke their ego.
I empathize with her, she has struggled witheating disorders since she was a child. She has also been made to become something that her mother could live vicariously through and it’s not ok. She was not given help when she was obviously struggling with OCD even when her grandfather recognized it. Also having the weight of supporting a household on her shoulders as a child is mentally exhausting.
