I enjoyed the beginning and thought the initial plot was interesting. The main female protagonist is a detective trying to uncover the secrets surrounding linked murders, while also finding herself becoming more involved with her stalkers.
I enjoy dark romance and thought I might like this one. In the end, this book just wasn’t my preference. Understandably, the book is a shorter style, but some of the plot began to feel rushed and thrown together towards the end.
Unfortunately the male protagonists also felt to similar to each other. It was hard to see them as separate characters. The author would describe them in instances asan uncontrolled younger brother and a more controlled older brother but aside from that description, they had no defining characteristics that set them apart from each other, even in dialogue.
Furthermore, it felt like their relationship to the main character lacked an emotional connection, aside from sex, up until the end. At the end, this connection felt rushed and forced with backstory. Even the main female character’s friendships that formed in the end seemed underdeveloped and forced.
This book has themes similar to stories such as “Haunting Adeline” by H.D Carlton and “Her Vigilante” by Lillian Lark (both which are great reads, just check the trigger warnings first). I just found this story to be lacking interesting character relationships and developed characters.
I initially found this book on a tik tok promoting it and other dark romance reads. Even though I wasn't a huge fan of it, others love it. So, I wouldn’t disregard it just based on this review. The plot is darker and has no shortage of sex scenes between the female and male protagonists. I’m still interested in checking out the authors other books, as they also have darker romance themes. This one just wasn’t for me.
