All Systems Red, by Martha Wells

5.0

5 stars of pure fun.

It's ironic that I would read this just after Yasushi Inoue's Paroi de glace which I rated 5 stars for literary merit "and not, per se, for the enjoyment" since this book is the exact opposite.

There aren't really themes or messages here, the characters are mostly underdeveloped, the story is straightforward and nothing too complex... but this book packs a punch of sheer entertainment. The main character is just lovable, the humour is spot on, the story fast paced and engaging...

A great little story that shines with its wit and perfectly dosed humour. Delightful!
