this book was amazing. the writing was phenomenal, Madeline Miller did a great job of writing the dialogue, the descriptions, the imagery, and the relationship between Achilles and Patroclus so beautifully.
let me tell you about Achilles and Patroclus, if someone doesn’t love me like they love each other, i don’t want it. Madeline Miller did a fantastic job of putting so much love and admiration into words and showing how much and how deeply Achilles and Patroclus loved each other. there’s witty banter and there’s scenes where they showed undying devotion. i feel like crying, screaming, and throwing up. (also if no one says “because you're the reason. swear it.” to me or refers to me as ‘philtatos’ once, i’m going to throw a riot)
the ending still made me cry, even though i knew what was coming. i knew about the Homer’s Illiad before hand and the ending was revealed in the middle of the story. but just the feeling of knowing what’s in store and waiting for the impending doom will always keep someone on the edge of their seat. when the ending actually happens, it hurts just as much or maybe even more. knowing that something’s bound to happen and you can’t do anything to stop it really brings someone to tears. the ending was so many levels of sad. but the ending does offer the thinnest silver lining and some peace of mind, so i’m grateful for that.
saying that the ending broke me is an understatement, i’ve rarely ever cried due to romance. but i’ve cried 5 times because of the last 60 pages of this book and my eyes have never felt dry, so. here is where i’ll end my review. if you’re looking for a good cry, go read this book!!
