If You Ask Me (And Of Course You Won't) by Betty White

2.0

Who doesn't love Betty White? Only crazy people don't love Betty White. This book popped up in recommendations for me, probably given that I've read a lot of comedic actress memoirs lately. I don't regret reading the book, but the second I opened it I realized it would take no time at all. The margins are huge, the font is large, there are about 75 pages of pictures, and lots of blank pages between text and pictures, with chapters consisting of usually just two or three pages. I finished it in one day, which is something because I'm not a normal reader that can delve into books for hours at a time since I have two toddler and limited time. Ms. White hits a ton of subjects in this book, ranging from Hollywood to animal welfare to stage fright, and she gave an honest and sweet account of things near and dear to her heart. Given that she is usually such a funny actress, plus the title of the book (which I thought was funny), I expected the book to be funny, but it wasn't. I didn't really laugh once; at the same time, it is not a somber book though. Just a lot of food for thought and background information about Ms. White, the industry, people she has worked with, and her other experiences. I appreciate her humble and gracious attitude. Glad I read it!
