A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas
2.0
The first 80% of this book was torture to get through. First of all, I GET IT. NESTA IS SAD AND ANGRY AND TRAUMATIZED. There are only so many ways you can say and show that before the reader starts feeling the same way.
Secondly, I was not ready for the sex scenes to be completely different from the books before. While I’d hesitate to call what came before “tasteful”… this was awful. Graphic and over-the-top and so, so cringe. It was nothing like the previous books, in tone or content. It made Nesta so much less relatable (not that we don’t love a sexually awakened woman, but come on!!) and kept distracting from what was otherwise an interesting plot and character development.
Anyway, the last 15-20% was pretty cool. Did it make the rest of the book worth it? Definitely not. Will I read the next book as soon as it comes out? Absolutely I will. Because I’m desperate to see more of Elain’s storyline and see how things at the Court of Dreams progress. I just hope the next time I won’t want to claw my eyes out for over half the book.
