Memories of Midnight by Sidney Sheldon

2.0

This is the sequel to [b:The Other Side of Midnight|136167|The Other Side of Midnight|Sidney Sheldon|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1172077093s/136167.jpg|1030360], written nearly two decades later. And, it's.....aight. Catherine Douglas, who ended the previous book ensconced in a convent in a fugue state, miraculously snaps back to reality. Constantin Demiris, the billionaire who orchestrated the deaths of his cheating girlfriend and Catherine's cheating husband, is informed of her recovery and he decides he'll kill Catherine after he has a little fun with her, if yanno what I mean. A potboiler conspiracy and romance/sex ensue, because this is Sidney Sheldon.

Several characters from Midnight make appearances. This is standard Sheldon fare. I don't think it was as good as the original. Granted, I read the original in 8th grade when my literary tastes were possibly less sophisticated. Still, the original was set against the sweeping backdrop of WWII and its European aftermath. This is just Demiris (who came across as at least somewhat of a good guy in the original) wanting to rape and kill poor Catherine so he can take further revenge on her husband, who had tried to kill her and is dead anyway, so that's a stupid idea. How did this guy get to be a billionaire again?
