So as a book published in the 1960s, it was probably seen as pretty progressive considering the two Chinese characters. Nevertheless the characters are still very stereotypical and racist depictions of Asian people. There were also little things, like many references to a Chinese character wearing a kimono (a traditionally Japanese article of clothing). It was a pretty cute story besides the little racist, stereotypical, details dropped throughout. I read the majority of this book while on the New York City subway, and the story really captured the essence of New York City, or at least 1960s NYC.
Overall a good read, but because of the consistent racist aspects i'll have to give this book a 2.75.
