"I have known monsters and I have known men." (Clarice)

I've wanted to read I Am Not Your Final Girl since it came across my radar via bookstagram and I'm so glad I finally picked it up for October! I'm a huge fan of poetry, but not just that - poetry with a general theme and vibe. I love when poems take it upon themselves to tell more than thoughts or emotions, and instead dig out a deeper story from the few words on the page. I feel like this collection does that incredibly well for how small it is!

I loved a lot of these, but some of my favorites were: ShidehHeatherIndia, Amelia, Elsa, Clarice, and Dana. I wasn't familiar with every horror heroine that had a poem, but the ones that I was familiar with hit different, especially Clarice. Hannibal and Silence of the Lambs has a lot of personal meaning to me and I just thoroughly enjoyed this poem in particular. Holland's poems were also far stronger in the second half of the book! I have to wonder if she organized this collection chronologically because they just feel more developed. I do think there's something in these pages for everyone, but it's obvious that female horror fans will get the most from these. They're for the bloodied, bruised girls who bite back screams and pick up the knife again.
