Absolutely electric - actually succeeds at being horrifying rather than just silly (as some gothic moves are unintentionally entertaining in that way). Gorgeous prose and a great narrative that leaves lots of twists and turns for someone only familiar with the story of Frankenstein’s inception (whereas the novel is much more focused on what comes after). The best gothic novel I have read so far by a wide margin.
