The Copper Promise by Jen Williams

3.0

This sadly was not my cup of tea.
For the audio book I'll even just give a 2* review - the narrator has a good voice and did a good job on telling the story, but ruined almost all the dialogues for me, whith the comical high voices she gives the characters.

To the book itself then - it started of fine, but after 1/3 I started to loose interest quickly. If it wasn't for the audio, I wouldn't have finished it, and even so I must confess by the end I was hoping to be finished soon and therefore I didn't pay to close attention for the last part.
Somehow the story didn't feel like an adventure with a beginning and an end, but rather like a lot of single action sequences after another, without a thread actually combining them to one story. It felt more like one dungeon crawl after some heist, after some looting... Just without the fun for me.

The magic felt to "easy" for something so rare and powerful, and I didn't think the powers very balanced over all. At one moment the characters are unbelievably good at fighting at another they seem to be beaten easily.

Three stars for the amount of magic - and dragons! and keeping me interested enough to finish the book.
