Scion of Ikshvaku, by Amish Tripathi

2.0

An average read. Amish seems to be following the philosophy of "If it is not broken, write more of the same". While the Shiva Trilogy was an interesting fresh take, this series feels like exactly the same. He continues with his obsession for describing Nagas, Vishnus and Mahadevs all over again and dedicates hundreds of paras to describing the angvastram colours of various people.

The masculine Vs feminine theme seemed like a leftover from the previous Meluhan Vs Swadeep theme of the previous books. The sub-plot inspired by Nirbhaya event also seemed quite forced and contrived.

The portrayal of Ram is also very shallow and he becomes annoying after a certain point of time. Lakshman seemed a lot more likeable as compared to him.

While the book might appeal to people who haven't read the earlier books, it is a sore disappointment to the rest of us.

P.S. He needs a better editor who can suggest better words than "Storm Troopers doing battle".
