Alices Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

3.0

You know how the most popular children's books are the ones you feel obligated to read? I had seen the Disney cartoon as a child and just saw the Tim Burton "adaptation" and decided that I liked both well enough that I'd probably like the original story. I did LIKE it but I can't push it much further than that. I thought this edition was very pretty and therefore, it'll stay on my bookshelves (maybe to read to future children) but the story didn't grab me much. I found a lot of the characters, including sometimes Alice, kind of annoying. I also wish their had been variation in the two stories. In both she goes to identical other worlds (Wonderland and The Looking Glass World) and meets an array of odd characters. But she doesn't stay with any of them quite long enough to get to know any of them. I might have been more interested with fewer characters. I also didn't like how all the characters seemed to be very crabby. Kinda put me on edge reading it. I am still glad I finally read this children's classic, merely for the fact that I can now say I did and it was only ok.
