As I finished the book, I felt that I was under a trance set by Owens’ spellbinding descriptions of the setting and characters, that really pull you in to the marsh and make you sympathize with Kya/Tate, without feeling too bogged down from the narrative. I especially enjoy her descriptions of food because it reminds me of how much I loved Enid Blyton’s in her boarding school books…! However, it reads very much like a K drama. The character arcs are quite memorable and tragic, although the way that everything fell so neatly into place at the end leave quite a lot to be desired, which is something I didn’t realize until after coming out of said trance 🤭 Also to be honest that the ending i would have LOVED was if Tate had been the one to kill Chase instead of the mysterious way that Kya did. And they would apprehend Tate right after releasing Kya and proven him guilty. I was so convinced that that was going to happen and now I think that would have been so good and the perfect ending to this tragedy of a book (and this ending played out so perfectly in my mind). But maybe that’s just where my dark, twisted mind goes. I would have liked a punchier ending than the one given to us though.
