Blackbird #2 by Sam Humphries, Mingjue Chen, Jen Bartel
4.0
Blackbird certainly wins the award for prettiest cover this week. It’s absolutely beautiful! I think I said that last time, when the first issue came out. But it’s still true this time. I love the colors, as well as the stylized dragon/cat.
While I’m totally wrapped up in the plot, I’m still not sure how I feel about Nina. I’m curious about what is happening to her…I just don’t feel connected to her, if that makes any sense. While we’ve seen her hurting and distressed, I still feel like we haven’t really been shown the real Nina. I can’t quite put my finger on why.
So the magical world in this series is a lot bigger than I expected. And a lot more organized. It’s a fun twist on magical societies and all that. I’ll be curious to see where it leads us in the long run.
