Bait by J. Kent Messum
3.0
Because this novel is a graphically disturbing thriller, it is not suitable for everyone, but those who can handle it will be rewarded with a suspenseful, thought-provoking story. The dialogue is rather crude but it seems to fit the characters and their situation, since they are forced to survive on a deserted island with scarce resources while suffering from heroin withdrawal. The characters grow in depth as the story progresses, giving the reader insight into the minds of drug addicts in a way that can make one reconsider his or her stigmatization against junkies. I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads but this has not influenced my review in any way.
