Autism in Heels: The Untold Story of a Female Life on the Spectrum by Jennifer Cook O'Toole, Jennifer O'Toole

Did not finish book. Stopped at 35%.
Oh my god how many times can an author tell you how brilliant and skilled she is. I genuinely wonder if the author has a personality disorder. She starts off telling us she's a genius so far beyond most people that we can't even conceive of it. Then tells us how perfect she is at language, accents, acting, and fitting in. She's the pretty cheerleader valedictorian sorority sister and she picks up accents so perfectly that even native speakers of a language are convinced she's local. Her instincts are so perfectly attuned that she can pick out autism 100% of the time without ever being wrong (oh but she isn't a doctor so she won't claim to know, but well, she's an expert too so actually she does know and she has never been wrong). I had hoped the author would eventually move on and not talk about herself and how amazing she is, but about page 93 she's going on and on about how when she was 8 years old she realized she was way smarter than her mom. Ok girl. 🙄
