An absolutely lovely story that, like all of Pat Rothfuss’ writing, is a pleasure to read. It’s the written equivalent of a dessert with the most delicious mouth-feel. It’s almost not important what the story is actually about. But the story is also great. I’m continuously in awe of how Patrick Rothfuss avoids the same tired universe building of other fantasy stories, where the dips back into the world feel meaningful and self-justifying instead of boiling down to selling you more words that remind you of a different story you liked before. He seems to feel guilty for not writing more and not writing faster, but whatever his secret sauce is I’m glad he’s not running his ideas into the ground. It’s a pleasure to pop back in for a visit and this is a great example of that.
