A Year Without a Name: A Memoir by Cyrus Grace Dunham

challenging tense

3.25

Uhhh how to rate this

The frenzy and the repetition and the unfocused-ness was clearly intentional and mood-setting and like it's jarring but I don't feel like there are points lost for that

Mostly what got to me for point losses is the over-the-top-ness of the writing, and the pretentiousness of Dunham and their friends sometimes I mean gotdam. Yeah I'm gonna roll my eyes at the friend who insists you spell their first name without an uppercase letter who advises you to leave your sister who is recovering from surgery for (I think it's) ovarian cancer so that you can "finally be free". I was a little bit waiting for a few of these friends to be rejected for bringing the author down and just being weird but whatever not my life. And it's hard to criticize you know like "characters" in this because those are just real regular people but it brought me out of it every time there was this kind of ridiculousness.
