Seven Shades of You by A.M. Johnson

5.0

The second book in A.M. Johnson's Twin Hearts world and her world in general.

Kai and Indie are truly the forbidden, opposites attract, soul-shattering warmth I need in a book. You have Kai, barely in his twenties, trying to hold everyone's hearts while forgetting to care for his own. He is filled with resentment towards his father, who left his mother and was barely around as he grew up, leaving Kai to have to care for his mother, on top of subconsciously grieving her inevitable death from her severe MS disease. He has self-medicated by becoming the school's man whore and alcohol.

Then we have Indie, who is a free spirit, struggling with the voices in her head from time to time, living her best artistic life! She is most certainly the balance and center Kai was searching for but afraid he was not worthy of. In so many ways, these two complement each other. Kai grounds Indie and her psychotic thoughts while Indie brings the peace Kai has desperately searched for and the love he never fully had.

A.M. Johnson, once again, has tackled some very sensitive and serious issues with a lightness I've not experienced. Making you laugh, cry, and think. She writes her spice in a very tasteful way for a young adult series. It's just enough for this smut lover not to feel like I needed more, well except for more of both of the books in this duet. I just want more Camden, Royal, Kai and Indigo(Indie). I'd also love to read Daphene's HEA, she truly deserves it!

Oh, also, can we talk about the blind side of that shower scene?! Get 'em, Indie! You get 'em, girl!
