Clementine by Sara Pennypacker

4.0

A Ramona Quimby-esque main character with an active mind and a sound lack of judgment, I found Clementine to be funny and compelling. As a third-grader, her maturity level vacillates wildly. But I've found that to be the case with a lot of kids. One day they solve all the problems of the world (like the Great Pigeon War) and the next they are cutting off all their hair and the next they are "wokking" their little brother (bestill my melting heart!), but not too much or he barfs.

Clementine is full of good intentions but beset with unintended consequences. I agree with other reviewers that readers who have enjoyed Clementine might reasonably graduate to Ramona Quimby and later, Anne Shirley.
