About That Fling by Tawna Fenske

3.0

For the most part, I enjoyed this book. Somewhat cliche if you mind that, but cute, light and fun. Then I got to the end, where it seemed like the author realized she wanted the story to end as quickly as possible, so all these coincidences came up, and I realized that throughout the book, the charm and wit of the characters had really masked how selfish the main character is. SPOILERS AHEAD: the character is so wrapped up in herself, that even though her best friend's husband gets shot, her best friend goes into labor, her aunt finds out that the main character went behind her back to try and save her own reputation---still, the only thing that the character seems to worry about is whether or not everyone will forgive her and like her again. I found the ending very deus ex-machina. The only character's reactions who actually made some kind of sense were her best friend's, who basically was like "lady, I love you, but your every move isn't going to destroy my world".

Strong start, and the story is well put together and engaging until you hit the last couple of chapters. Then, it just pulled me completely out of the story and left a sour taste and disbelief in the characters in its wake.
