My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante

4.5

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this one! Watching Elena and Lila grow through adolescence together in friendship and rivalry was a powerful experience. I grew to really like the sort of detailed and meticulous style and the huge cast of characters that dipped in and out of the story. I was impressed by how vivid the impoverished outskirts of Naples was despite the somewhat bare prose style. I want to keep reading the series and am intrigued by the HBO show. I haven’t been a series girly in so long!
