Rachel Runya Katz's writing always makes me emotional, even in her author's note about Southern Judaism and Black American history. While I found Nia and Jade's romance lovely, I was much more engaged with the road trip, grief, and familial relationships explored in this book, which speaks to where I am emotionally right now!

Katz explores so many heavy topics in this book in a way that felt so authentic to the characters; all three MCs' grief over Michal's death was so beautifully written that I felt so genuinely emotional over a character I didn't even know. As Jade and Jonah (twins) explored their nearing 29th birthday, close relationship, and hidden emotions/secrets, their dynamic was fascinating as their perceived closeness both harmed and held their relationship together.

The road trip was so amazingly written, and I was glad to see Katz write about the actual tour she took and the truths behind the history she was telling; Jewish and Black history in America is often told so separately, but Katz spends much time in this book ensuring the reader understands the more complicated intertwined history the two groups have, especially in the Southern U.S.

The romance in this book between Nia and Jade is really lovely, and I appreciated how the two had to really work through their shit, and it wasn't easy! It was actually really hard for them, and I liked that Katz paid special attention to the hard part of being friends-to-lovers, which is often missed.

Katz is an absolute must-read author for me and I always have to thank Rachel Lynn Solomon for introducing me to her debut!
