Not Ciena explaining away the destruction of an entire planet while simultaneously screaming about her honor at every possible turn…
Also, Nash made my skin crawl.
3 stars for the way the Empire’s machinations and methods of indoctrination were fleshed out. It almost read like a horror novel because, well, it kind of was. Other than that, I really didn’t like the main characters at all and spent most of the story feeling frustrated, especially with Ciena.
Graphic: Genocide, Slavery, Grief, War, Injury/Injury detail, and Classism
Moderate: Child abuse, Suicidal thoughts, and Suicide attempt
