Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi

5.0

this summer i decided i wanted to get back into reading for leisure because i LOVED reading in elementary and middle school. but then i stopped reading in high school because i didn’t have the time, and that was when i had to read for class a lot, so i didn’t feel like reading outside of what i was assigned to read. because of this, i eventually forgot how fun reading could be.

i tried getting back into reading last summer by reading ‘the midnight library’ by matt haig. however instead of bringing me out of my reading ‘slump’, it just kept me there, so i ended up not reading anything else. then about two weeks ago, i decided to buy ‘before the coffee gets cold’ and ‘tales from the cafe’ because i heard really good things about them and they had been on my reading list for a couple months.

i am so glad that i read this book because i can confidently say it brought me out of my years-long reading ‘slump’. this book pretty much made me remember how exciting and comforting reading can be. it’s both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time, and i believe anyone can relate to any part of this book. i can’t lie, i teared up at the end but i’m happy that it did. i think i’ll always have a special place in my heart for this book, and perhaps the whole series, because not only is the book good, but it also made me love reading again.
