WIEDERGEBURT: Legend of the Reincarnated Warrior 1 by Crystal Holdefer, Mykel Harford, Brandon Varnell

3.0

While this is better then some books of the same genre I’ve read, I wouldn’t rush to call it anything except average. All the characters felt the same, and had little to differentiate them other then surface level things.

And the world makes little sense? Why are their months so long? Why is the main location called a city state early on, but just a city later? What makes it a city state? Why are there so many waterfalls?? Why didn’t the snake cause more trouble???? Judging from the rest of the book, it should have been a big issue Witt them being so close to everything being called Demon something. Demon mountains, demon land.. and no city guards are demanding a massive snake that’s freaking people out leave or die??

And also.. the beginning of the book was jarring, monotonous, and almost put me off finishing the thing. We’re bombarded with so much new information not being explained, with sentences that can’t seem to vary in length to save their lives, and story details being all over the place.

Sure, I get the exact mL sizes of his alchemy beakers and all the ingredients and pages of tedious descriptions of potion making, but I can’t get more then a few choppy sentences on some elemental birds? Or some detail on his surroundings or the people more then once? I want to be pulled into the story, not feel like I’m listening to a creepy nostalgic grandpa as he gets weirdly excited over beakers and bosoms.
