This is the most emotionally devastating thing I have read in a while.
The Invisible Life of Addie Larue is one of those stories that is like a fine old clock. It feels so long and so much like a build up of something grand and the whole time you are just waiting for the moment the clock strikes a new hour.
And when it hits that hour and that final gear clicks into place everything you ever expected shrivels up.
Not that it isn't predictable but in the way that the person who you were at the beginning never would have expected this story to ever become this. To ever drown in the way this does.
I will say go into it not with the idea that you are getting anything epic because I think that's where people end up failing. It is a very slow very uneventful compared to other fantasy works but it is AMAZING. I love and adore but its one of those works where it won't be understood until you get to that point where the gear hits. Until then just vibe and let the story carry you. This is a very much trust the process work.
