The Blood of Olympus, by Rick Riordan

2.0

i feel like the highlight of this book is the promotion of nico and reyna's characters. they're given more spotlight, more screentime, more development. however, that doesn't erase the fact that the ending feels a little... lackluster. from the beginning of the series, we were teased with something bigger: more battles, more prophecies, more... something . some of them happened, though some of them did not. the other main characters feel a little unpolished at the end. the fight with gaea was teased for so long and it ended so... different. it felt anti climactic, rushed.

even now, jason remains flat, and his character feels unexplored, underdeveloped. the others were developed, but were completely shelved at the last minute. frank still didn't get enough of a screen time and neither did hazel. it felt like the other characters' importance were brushed off for the sake of the plot, and it feels kind of wasteful.

that doesn't mean the book doesn't have its moments. it's still enjoyable to read, though it's not nearly as memorable for a finale.
