This is one of the most tense, immersive, and propulsive books I’ve read in recent memory. Add to this the fact that the author has crafted a book with characters who feel incredibly human and nuanced, many of whom you care about deeply, and brings you to consider difficult and complex themes around Indigenous life and history in this country in just over 200 pages? It’s impressive. I’ll press this one into ANYONE’S hands. If I was still I bookseller I would handsell the life out of this book. And if you’re put off because you don’t think you can deal with post-apocalyptic business right now, I urge you to try it because there is a lot of hope and community and life in this book.
