Into the Light by Aleatha Romig

4.0

I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did, but “Into the Light” was a real page-turner. The story follows three characters, Stella, Sara, and Jacob.

Stella is an investigative reporter searching for her lost friend while researching a cult-like organization called “The Light.” Sara recently wakes up from a car accident with no memory of her life. She learns that she is the wife of Jacob, one of the high-ranking Assemblymen of The Light, who must relearn her subservient role in the organization.

While many aspects of the story made me mad—particularly that women are treated like possessions—I also couldn’t put this down. I think back to Jim Jones, Waco, and other real-life cults, so I know much of what happens, while fiction, likely happens (or has happened) somewhere.

There are many holes left open and a big twist in the end that I didn’t see coming, making me desperate to start Book 2 pronto.
