Maybe I just like being a HATER, but if you have to tack on things to explain the ending maybe you're trying to do too much??? (This is a comment directed at a celebrated mystery writer who died in 1976)
ANYWAY I guess I don't read mysteries and find it wild that someone could plan something so convoluted and have NOTHING go wrong. Alas, I am reading this in the post-postmodern era... THINGS FALL APART, THE CENTER DOES NOT HOLD, etc.... (Though anyone who is following that deep cut may note that the poem is from 1920, and the novel from 1958... However: POST-POSTmodern? POSTwar? POSTcolonial? SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT....!)
ANYWAY AGAIN!! What do I know!! I'm just a lady who loves thrillers that don't give answers!!! If you also found the ending ridiculous, may I suggest to you the 2002 movie "Memories of Murder"--a thriller that won't tell you anything, but will make you sound cool in front of people who went to film school!!
Oh also, wow the antisemitism was unexpected and really just right there at the beginning of the book for everyone to see. (Bonus, did you know this book used to be called Ten Little Indians? And before that something even MORE racist??) ((In fact, it was SO racist that the publisher had the sense to change it for the American release in 1940! Fun!))
