A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas
5.0
The slow-burn, detailed, healing narrative of this story was fantastic. I loved it.
I was excited from the start to see how Rhysand’s character developed and I was not disappointed. He’s not perfect, no love interest should be, but I think he’s a genuinely good person who loves Feyre for her and not who he wants her to be (looking at you there Tam). Plus he’s hilarious and charmingly cheeky and honest. I love him as a character. I also think the relationship between him and Feyre was believable and way healthier than with Tamlin in the last book. Friends to lovers is superior (even if it’s enemies to friends first)! It just means more trust and honesty and love in the relationship!
I could see Tamlin going wrong from the get go, I said in my last review that there were so many red flags and guess what, I was absolutely right. That man is just one big red flag at this point. Even after his terrifying idea of ‘protecting’ and his blatant neglect, I was at a point where I could still forgive him as his actions could be the result of PTSD which he would have after the events at Under The Mountain. But then the end of the book happened. And now I hate him and cannot wait for Feyre to get even.
All of the side characters steal the show. I’m in love with Mor, I want Cassian to be my big brother, Azriel deserves the goddamn world, Amren seems like the coolest best friend ever. I’m disappointed in Lucien but I’m holding out hope that he’ll redeem himself.
SJM’s strongest point in her writing is definitely her characters. Most of them are so well written and I think she’s good at making you feel exactly how she wants you to feel about characters depending on the situation.
As for the plot, this book was mostly centred around all of the main characters healing and growing, which I think was done very well, as well as the set up for the war that I assume is coming in the next book, which I also quite liked though I am hoping there will be a bit more set up and tension building around the war in the next book before a full fledged war breaks out as I don’t feel the series is quite there yet.
After the cliffhanger at the end, I can’t wait to see what happens next. I’m hoping in involves several characters dying because they deserve it. And I want Amren to be able to go back to her home, I feel so bad for her.
Overall, this was a fantastic read that I could hardly put down. I’m so glad I’ve finally gotten around to reading the full series and I absolutely recommend it to any fantasy romance lovers!!
