The Rise of Endymion by Dan Simmons

4.0

As with anything of this magnitude, my mere summary or ‘review’ seems to pale in comparison. But I’ll do my best. I must say, I loved the themes, plot, and epic space opera put together by Mr. Simmons here. I feel as if this certainly is deserving of a five due to its sheer complexity and wonderful galaxy building. Without spoiling anything, I found myself to be incredibly satisfied with this final book. As with the previous book, however, I found the middle ‘act’ (if you will) to be a bit of a haul to get through. But man oh man is the payoff there. Ultimately, a more concise middle would make this perfect for me. I can’t blame Dan for not wanting it to end, though—neither did I.

So long, shrike. Goodbye, Hyperion. Thanks for the ride.

4/5 (and 4/5 for the series as a whole) (bonus thought: Dune > Hyperion)
