though an emotional read, i really enjoyed the books story and characters. the chapters oscillate between characters, which i sometimes find frustrating but it worked here since there was not one clear timeline the book followed. two narrative irks: i wish fareeda’s redemption and emotional development had been a little more drawn out, and i grew frustrated with sarah and deya's multiple discussion about the concept of choice - a lot more could have been explored there but their many conversations on the topic felt surface level
