This book has an intriguing and unique premise. I really enjoyed the way that the author explores the nuance of maintaining relationships with people who have vastly different belief systems. The bulk of the book revolves around the main character's inner termoil and isn't particularly plot focused but I didn't personally mind that. The protagonist isn't always the most loveable character, I found her judgmental and selfish at times, but I still found myself empathizing with her confusion, fear, and grief throughout the book. However, I found aspects of the storytelling a bit disjointed. There were several scenes in the book that I kept thinking would be important later on that just never came up again. The ending was also a bit unsatisfying to me. It felt abrupt and provided very little resolution.
