After finishing Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin this summer(2012)I decided to reread books I loved in High School, starting with the Dragonriders of Pern books. The books held up *pretty* well. The universe that McCaffrey created is really inspired and I can see why it inspired so many books. The writing was more amateur than I remembered, however (like an author trying to prove themselves through similes and adjectives) and the sexism of the era was worse than I remembered (apparently, hysterical women just need a good slap once in a while). Still, I can see why my 14 year old self was fascinated with these books - they really engage your imagination.
